So when you ask a question in a meeting, give people time to think.

Not everyone thinks out loud. So respect that.

Give people time to think.

If you challenge someone in front of others, they’re likely to feel embarrassed, defensive or shut down.

So if someone needs to be challenged, do it one-to-one. Keep it calm and constructive.

But when someone deserves praise, be specific and do it publicly. You’ll boost their confidence and show others what good looks like.

People remember how you handle feedback. It shapes how open they are with you. It shapes how they perform.
